These terms apply to your use of windowdetective.co.uk and to all quotes, surveys, supply, installation, repair and maintenance work carried out by The Window Detective Ltd (“The Window Detective”, “we”, “us” or “our”). Please read them carefully. By accepting a quote or booking work with us, you agree to these terms. If anything in your written quote differs from these terms, the quote takes priority.
1. About us
- Business: The Window Detective Ltd
- Address: St Helier, JE2 3SD, Jersey
- Email: windowdetective@gmail.com
- Phone: +44 7700 806368
2. Quotes
- Prices shown on our website or given over the phone are guide prices only. Your price is confirmed in a written quote, normally after we have surveyed your property.
- Quotes are valid for 30 days unless the quote says otherwise.
- Your quote is based on the information and measurements available at the time. If we find hidden problems once work starts, such as rotten frames, damaged brickwork or lintels, or anything that could not reasonably be seen during the survey, we will explain the issue and agree any extra cost with you before carrying out the additional work.
3. Placing an order
- A contract is formed when you accept our written quote (in writing, by email or by message) and we confirm your order.
- We may ask for a deposit, as stated in your quote, before ordering products. Windows and doors are usually made to measure for your property.
- Before we order your products, we will confirm the final details with you, including sizes, styles, colours, glass and hardware. Please check these carefully, as made-to-measure products cannot usually be changed once ordered.
4. Changing or cancelling your order
- You can ask to change or cancel your order at any time by contacting us.
- If you cancel before we have ordered any products or started work, we will refund any deposit in full.
- If you cancel after made-to-measure products have been ordered, we may keep, or charge you, a reasonable amount to cover costs we have already incurred and cannot recover, such as manufacturing costs. We will show you how this amount has been worked out.
- Nothing in this section affects your statutory rights.
5. Surveys, installation and your property
- We will agree dates for surveys and installation with you. Dates are estimates, and we will let you know as soon as possible if there is a delay, for example because of weather, supplier delays or events outside our control.
- Please give us safe, reasonable access to the property and the areas we need to work in, a parking space where possible, and access to electricity. Please remove curtains, blinds, furniture and valuables from around the work area before we arrive.
- If you do not own the property, you are responsible for getting the owner’s or landlord’s permission before work begins.
- Unless your quote says otherwise, you are responsible for any planning permission, listed building consent or landlord or management company approval that the work needs. We are happy to advise you on what may be required.
- Fitting windows and doors can occasionally cause minor disturbance to surrounding plaster, paintwork, render or decoration. We take care to keep this to a minimum and will make good the immediate area as described in your quote. Unless your quote says otherwise, redecoration is not included.
- We will remove and dispose of old windows, doors and packaging from the work, unless we agree otherwise.
6. Payment
- The balance is due when the work is completed, unless your quote sets out a different payment schedule.
- We accept the payment methods listed on your quote or invoice.
- Products remain our property until they have been paid for in full.
- If a payment is late, we will contact you to agree a solution before taking further steps.
7. Finance
Where we offer finance, including interest-free credit, it is provided by a third-party finance provider, is subject to status and approval, and is governed by that provider’s own terms. We will give you the provider’s details and the full terms before you apply.
8. Guarantees and aftercare
- We carry out all work with reasonable care and skill, and the products we supply will be as described, of satisfactory quality and fit for purpose.
- Your products may also come with a manufacturer’s guarantee. We will give you the details of any guarantee that applies with your quote or on completion.
- If you notice a problem with our work or the products, please tell us as soon as possible. We will inspect it and, where we are responsible, repair or replace the item, or offer a fair refund.
- Guarantees do not cover damage caused by accidents, misuse, lack of reasonable maintenance, normal wear and tear, or alterations or repairs made by someone other than us.
9. Your statutory rights
Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer, including your rights under the Supply of Goods and Services (Jersey) Law 2009. For information about your rights, you can contact the Jersey Consumer Council or Citizens Advice Jersey.
10. Our liability
- We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of us breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill.
- We are not responsible for loss or damage that was not foreseeable, or for business losses. Our services are provided for domestic and private use unless we agree otherwise in writing.
- We do not exclude or limit our liability where it would be unlawful to do so, including for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, or for fraud.
11. Using our website
- We aim to keep the information on our website accurate and up to date, but it is for general information only. Product images are for illustration, and finishes and colours may vary slightly.

12. Your personal data
We use your personal data as described in our Privacy Policy.
13. Complaints
If you are not happy with our work or service, please contact us using the details in section 1. We will acknowledge your complaint promptly and do our best to resolve it fairly and quickly.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Island of Jersey, and any dispute will be dealt with by the courts of Jersey.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. The version that applies to your work is the one in place when you accepted your quote.
